Harmful light leads to complications on a microscopic level in the retinal cells of an Albino rat.

  • Our studies demonstrated the detrimental effects of harmful light on the cellular structure of the eyes of the Albino Rat. 

  • They also demonstrated the potential for a solution to this threat in the form of our filtering nanotechnology. 

  • In the left figure, we observe the expression of GFAP (a protein) in Muller cells – a sign of tissue stress – associated with retinal degeneration.  This is absent in the tissue protected by the RISE filter.

  • We can also observe the differences in the thickness of the photoreceptor layer – in blue – filtered and without filter.
